I’m an instructional designer passionate about helping individuals and organizations thrive by creating engaging, effective, and data-driven learning solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
Enhancing performance through engaging, data-driven learning solutions.
My Story.
I never intended on becoming a police officer. I was in the process of applying to Ph.D. programs when an accidental encounter with a police officer during an elevator ride changed the trajectory of my life. Fifteen years later, I now serve as a lead instructor, program manager, and curriculum developer for the largest police agency in the state of Oregon.

My entry into the field of instructional design came by way of necessity; when I became a full-time instructor, I was thrown into a world of lesson plans, learning objectives, and presentations. Despite the years of experience I had facilitating hands-on, practical instruction and scenario-based training, it was an entirely different experience being responsible for the development of end-to-end curriculum. I worked to educate myself on adult learning theories and instructional design models, and I learned how to implement the foundational principles of how people learn to create innovative, engaging, and high-impact learning experiences.
The transition into training and education inspired me to pursue post-graduate education in Learning Design and Technology from the University of San Diego. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Portland State University, and the diverse combination of educational and practical experience has shaped my understanding of how people learn and retain information. My love of learning and passion for teaching collided into a field that provides me the opportunity to motivate and inspire change and deliver measurable results.
My Approach.
My approach to instructional design emphasizes collaboration with program managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and stakeholders so that I can thoroughly understand the organizational and individual training needs and performance objectives. Through the integration of empathy-informed instruction, ongoing data evaluation and application of feedback, I design learning experiences that are relevant, engaging, and memorable. My diverse experience designing and implementing curriculum has enabled me to develop expertise at delivering complex content that effectively translates organizational goals into real world applications. I design training that doesn’t just check the box – I create learning experiences that enhance real world decision-making and outcomes.
Excellence. Leadership. Service.
Excellence, leadership, and service are values that shape my professional identity as a police officer and instructional designer. They are the root of my motivation to create and deliver the best possible product I can for the people I serve. I believe excellence is an outward expression of integrity. I believe effective leadership requires humility, integrity, and adaptation. And I believe true leaders never stop learning – they preach what they practice. As a teacher and designer, I strive to keep the needs of learners at the core of the design process in order to build effective, engaging, and instructionally sound learning solutions.

When I’m not at work, you’re likely to find me rock climbing, doing CrossFit, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, hand-balancing, trail running, latin dancing, reading, or watching documentaries. I love being outdoors, playing in the mountains, and trying new things.
